Christ-Centered Wedding Ideas

You’ve met the love of your life and decided to make the commitment of walking each other home to Heaven - beautiful!

There’s just one question now — how to plan a wedding that reflects the deeper meaning behind your marriage?

So often these days, wedding planning revolves around decorations, mood boards, and Pinterest dreams - none of which are bad, but it’s so easy to lose sight of what matters most - your relationship with God and each other!

Here are a few ideas to help make sure your wedding day reflects both the sacredness of marriage and the One who gave us marriage in the first place!

Include Bible passages and/or a short sermon in your ceremony

What better way to center your wedding on Christ than to include His Word? Check out some of my favorite Bible passages to use in your wedding here. The sermon from Nate + Valerie’s wedding is also one of my all-time favorites, and you can check out pieces of it in their wedding film!

Use your favorite Christian music and hymns in your ceremony

I’m working on a list of my favorite P&W songs and hymns to use in your wedding! Feel free to add yours in the comments below :) For now, enjoy this clip of Charles singing along to “What a Beautiful Name” as he walks his soon-to-be mother-in-law down the aisle!

**As a side note, please be sure you and your musicians have all the proper permissions and licenses to use the music you choose. Support our Christian artists!

Include faith-based statement pieces

Nate + Val used this stunning cross as the centerpiece of their outdoor ceremony. Not only is it a beautiful visual, but also a metaphor as they stood on either side. Christ is between them, and it’s Christ unites them! I’ve seen lots of other faith-based decor, and you could go all out if you want!

Utilize Bible verses on wedding invites, decor, etc.

Long story short, I didn’t get to use one of the readings I wanted most at my wedding. So instead, I pulled my favorite verse and used it on the back of our invitations! I also love putting verses on signs around the reception, or even at the ceremony.

Pray together before ceremony

Whether you have a first look or not, I always recommend praying together before your ceremony. Taking time to re-center and focus on the incredible covenant you are about to make with each other and with God is always a good idea! Miranda + Connor had their parents join them at the altar and pray over them before their ceremony ended, which I also thought was beautful!

Christ-centered pre-marital counseling

This is perhaps the least visible but MOST IMPORTANT aspect of planning a Christ-centered wedding. Pre-marital counseling was actually one of my favorite parts of wedding planning! It brought up many differences and backgrounds that my husband and I had never considered, and gave us plenty to work through and talk about. I would highly recommend asking your pastor for pre-marital counseling or finding a Christian counseling center near you. Plus, you will have a great place to go back to once you’re married, as well!
